Cummins is the first and only manufacturer with diesel engines certified and compliant with the new EPA standards for the bus industry. Through its joint venture, Cummins Westport Inc., it also provides natural gas-fueled engines certified almost 30% below the standard, the lowest emissions engines available today.

The EPA unveiled the Clean School Bus USA initiative at events yesterday in Philadelphia, PA. and Washington, D.C., attended by EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman and industry leaders, including officials from Cummins Inc. The EPA program will help school districts and school bus fleet operators either replace older buses with newer models or install low emission control The selective and controlled use of electromagnetic, acoustic, or other emitters to optimize command and control capabilities while minimizing, for operations security: a. detection by enemy sensors; b. mutual interference among friendly systems; and/or c.  devices on existing buses.
