(CBD-TSE) (the "Company") is pleased to announce commencement of the 1996 drilling program on the west portion of the Meliadine Gold project (now called Meliadine West) which is currently under option to WMC WMC Winter Music Conference WMC Weill Medical College (Cornell University) WMC Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (Madison, WI) WMC Westchester Medical Center WMC Western Mining Corporation International Ltd. Under the terms of the option agreement, WMC has the right to acquire up to 60 percent in the property by funding all expenditures to production. Upon production Cumberland and joint venture partner Comaplex Minerals Corp. will each retain a 20 percent interest in Meliadine West. WMC International Ltd. has informed the Company that drilling is underway on the Tiriruniak (or Fox) shear-hosted gold target. The Tiriruniak zone was outlined in 1995 by 10 widely spaced drill holes over an 8,800 foot length. Highlights from the 1995 program include intersections of 126 feet grading 0.11 oz/ton gold (Hole 95-01) and 24.6 feet grading 0.26 oz/ton gold (Hole 95-25). WMC International will also drill other outstanding targets on the Meliadine West project including the Wolf and F-zones.
