Blonde Renee, 27, has let the show right out of the closet.

She says there was a decision made when the show premiered in 1995 to fill it with obvious lesbian overtones.

They included Xena, played by New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  actress Lucy Lawless, smooching with Gabrielle, Gabrielle asking Xena to join her in the bath and the pair "exchanging meaningful looks".

Renee, who lives in Auckland, New Zealand - where the show is filmed - explained: "There was a time when we played with the idea of Xena and Gabrielle being more than just good friends.

"But now their on-screen on·screen or on-screen

The gay overtones of the show have made Xena: Warrior Princess cult viewing among the lesbian community. Gay bars around America even hold raucous Xena viewing nights.

They will be delighted with Renee's hint there may be more bath-tub frolics.

She said darkly: "Never say never on this show!"

Supervising producer Steve Sears says: "Xena and Gabrielle definitely have a love for each other. It's up to the audience to determine what that love is."

But producer Liz Friedman is a little more forthcoming.

She declares: "I don't have any interest in saying Xena and Gabrielle are heterosexuals."
