LEXINGTON, Mass. -- Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBST) today announced that it is teaming up with the New England Patriots Radio Network, WBZ FM 98.5 The Sports Hub, and its 36-station radio network throughout New England, during the 2009 New England Patriots season to recognize innovative science teachers in middle schools and high schools throughout New England.

Throughout the season, Cubist and the New England Patriots Radio Network will recognize science teachers leading the way in the classroom. Each week, during the New England Patriots season, a teacher will be selected as the Cubist Pharmaceuticals 'Teacher of the Week' and announced during the New England Patriots radio broadcast. The teacher will be qualified to win the Cubist Pharmaceuticals Science Education Leadership Award at the last New England Patriots home game on December 27th. The grand prize winning teacher will have a special meet and greet with Patriots broadcasters at the CBS Scene in Foxboro and a game day experience. Cubist will also present a $500 check to the winning teacher's school toward their science program. Also, a Patriots alumni player will be making a special appearance at that teacher's school at the end of the season. Log onto www.patriotsradionetwork.com to enter online.

Cubist President and CEO Michael Bonney said, "Cubist is committed, as an organization and through the volunteer work of our employees, to ensuring that today's young people are prepared for careers in science if that is their desire. That preparation is being made possible by a cadre of science teachers who are implementing innovative teaching techniques and opening young minds to the endless possibilities that science provides."

Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation Executive Director Lance A. Hartford said, "A workforce prepared to take on the increasingly technical and scientific careers of the 21st century is critical for our nation's prosperity. That workforce is being prepared in today's middle- and high-schools and is dependent on teachers stimulating young minds to pursue science in college. Cubist Pharmaceuticals' Science Education Leadership Award celebrates great teachers leading the way."
