Cubic to Demonstrate Power of Simulation at Major U.S. Military Training Exhibition.

SAN DIEGO -- Cubic Defense Applications (CDA), the defense segment of Cubic Corporation (AMEX AMEX

See: American Stock Exchange
:CUB), demonstrates the power of simulation -- in "live, virtual and constructive domains" -- at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC I/ITSEC Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference ). The annual exhibition, which opens today in Orlando, Fla., is the largest and most important military training show in the U.S.

Cubic's presence features an array of interactive demonstrations as well as next-generation air and ground combat training systems, mission support and educational services.

Among the hands-on demonstrations, Cubic rolls out its enhanced virtual simulator for small-arms training and a new urban tracking system. The company also is providing its advanced PC-based tracking and display systems for a DoD-sponsored event -- the Joint Virtual Training Special Event (JVTSE JVTSE Joint Virtual Training Special Event ) -- headed by the Joint Forces Command (JFCOM JFCOM Joint Forces Command (formerly ACOM change effective 1 Oct 99) ).

THE JVTSE DEMONSTRATIONS

The JVTSE special event involves a wide variety of military and civilian organizations networked with off-site virtual and constructive exercises. The event demonstrates the power of integrating live, virtual and constructive simulations for joint training.

"We are very pleased that Cubic was selected to participate in this major event. It demonstrates that we are embracing open architecture and focusing on the development of interoperable systems that will improve the readiness of U.S. forces to fight effectively as a joint and combined team," said Gerald Dinkel, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Cubic Defense Applications.

The JVTSE demonstration builds on the Joint National Training Capability (JNTC JNTC Joint National Training Capability
JNTC Joint National Training Center
JNTC Joint Network Transport Capability
) effort to close the gap between service programs and establish a broader joint interoperability environment.

The main JVTSE demonstrations are taking place at the JFCOM booth. The scenarios highlight the capabilities of the JFCOM Joint Warfighting Center's new JNTC Advanced Training Technologies Laboratory.

 & PC-RIS INTEGRATION

Cubic also showcases the PC-based systems that provide real-time tracking, positioning data and integration capabilities -- the Individual Combat Aircrew Display System (ICADS(R)) and PC-Range Instrumentation System (PC-RIS).

PC-RIS provides exercise control and After Action Review capabilities on PCs and laptops. The system supports mobile training missions -- from Brigade-level exercises requiring multiple workstations to home station training for platoons utilizing laptops. PC-RIS is currently being installed at the Alaska Training Range, Canada's Weapons Effects Simulator (WES) combat training center and multiple other combat training centers worldwide.

ICADS provides real-time mission control and immediate debriefs for air-combat training missions on PCs, laptops or in a theater environment. It enables controllers to communicate with combat pilots in real time, control simulated threats and record the data for aircrew debriefs. ICADS is a key component of the next-generation P5 Combat Training System/Tactical Combat Training System (P5 CTS/TCTS), which also will be showcased at I/ITSEC.

 2000 ENHANCEMENTS

The other major Cubic I/ITSEC demonstrations center around the Engagement Skills Trainer (EST 2000), developed by the company's Orlando-based Simulation Systems Division. EST 2000, the U.S. Army's only validated small-arms training system, is designed to enhance individual marksmanship, and collective and judgmental use-of-force skills.

The system allows trainees to shoot laser bullets from actual weapons at simulated enemies on a high-resolution, 3-screen display. The scenarios feature multiple environments -- ranging from Middle-Eastern desert battle scenes to urban, jungle and mountain terrains -- in all weather and light conditions. The trainees' actions are recorded in detail for after-action reviews and lessons learned.

At I/ITSEC, Cubic will showcase the evolution of the Engagement Skills Trainer from the basic system configuration to the Warrior Skills Trainer; the integration of the Call For Fire Trainer with the EST; and integration of live, virtual and constructive simulations inside the EST demo area.

MISSION SUPPORT & CONSTRUCTIVE SIMULATIONS

Cubic will also feature its array of mission support and constructive simulation services at I/ITSEC. The company has been a prime contractor for more than 35 military training and simulation support facilities, including the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC JRTC Joint Readiness Training Center (Fort Polk, LA, USA) ) at Ft. Polk, La., and the U.S. Army's Simulation Centers at I Corps, Fort Lewis, Wash., Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and in Europe, Korea and Japan.

Additionally, Cubic serves as the training support contractor for the JFCOM Joint Warfighting Center and provides exercise support for the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, Calif.; the Marine Air Ground Task Force Training System Support program, known as MTSS MTSS Ministerio de Trabajo y Seguridad Social (Spanish)
MTSS Military Training Service Support
MTSS Main Traffic Signal System (transportation)
; and the Korean Battle Simulation Center.

Cubic also plays a leading role in the DoD's "joint transformation" initiatives. In the past year, Cubic joined a 22-company team that received a four-year $478 million ID/IQ ID/IQ Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity
ID/IQ Indefinite Duration/Indefinite Quantity
Joint Experimentation Program contract from JFCOM. Cubic also contributes directly to the "training transformation" JNTC effort through the company's JFCOM Joint Warfighting Center program.

TRAINING & EDUCATION

Cubic representatives are on hand at I/ITSEC to demonstrate the company's new military training and education programs. Cubic is a leader in applying advanced learning technologies to training, education and leader development programs. Cubic's learning management services include strategic planning, curriculum design and development, computer-assisted training courses, and emergency management training programs. The company's training courseware ranges from traditional and interactive multimedia instruction to web-based distance learning programs.

Cubic is the civilian contractor for the DTRA CBRNE Exercise Support Program and will also coordinate exercise-related events at various locations in the United States and overseas.

The Cubic Defense Applications group, one of Cubic's two major segments, provides realistic combat training systems for military forces as well as simulation, force modernization, educational services, operations and maintenance, and manufacturing services.
