Cubic's next-generation Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System The Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System or MILES is used by the United States Armed Forces and other armed forces around the world for training purposes. It uses lasers and blank cartridges to simulate actual battle. (MILES) allows troops to fire laser infrared "bullets" from the same weapons and vehicles that they would use in actual combat. "Hits," "misses" or "kills" are then recorded, replayed and analyzed in detail during after-action reviews, where participants can review their performance after the training exercises. Deliveries of the MILES equipment will begin next February and last through April 2003. The shipments will include helmets and torso vests equipped with laser detectors, and Small Arms small arms, firearms designed primarily to be carried and fired by one person and, generally, held in the hands, as distinguished from heavy arms, or artillery. Early Small Arms The first small arms came into general use at the end of the 14th cent. Transmitters designed for mounting on rifles, machine guns and heavy machine guns. Cubic will also deliver a quantity of Controller Devices, which training exercise observer-controllers use to transfer training event data and to provide exercise participants with ammunition reloads and reset and resurrect commands after a casualty assessment. "This continues the fielding of a product that provides superior combat training," said Ray Barker For the baseball player, see .
