SAN DIEGO, Calif. and LONDON, U.K. -- The defense unit of San Diego-based Cubic Corporation (AMEX AMEX

market, at two major exhibitions held in and around London in mid-July.

The first, Shepherd's UV Europe conference, is taking place at the Queen Elizabeth Conference Centre II in London, July 14-16. The following week, Cubic's TCDL technology will be on display along with Cubic's training systems and mission support capabilities at the Farnborough Air Show The Farnborough International Airshow is a seven-day international trade fair for the aerospace business which is held biennially in England. The airshow is organised by Farnborough International Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of British aerospace industry's body the Society , July 19-23.

Cubic's TCDL is used for high-speed, secure transmission of intelligence data between manned or unmanned aircraft sensors and ground stations.

The DoD's Joint Interoperability Test Center has verified Cubic's TCDL as compliant with its Common Data Link (CDL 1. CDL - Computer Definition anguage. A hardware description language. "Computer Organisation and Microprogramming", Yaohan Chu, P-H 1970.

) specifications.

The company is leveraging its TCDL technology to develop the U.S. Navy's next generation communications data link system, which will transmit signal and imagery intelligence between national/tactical reconnaissance aircraft sensors and their associated ship processing systems.

Three recent flight tests demonstrated the high quality air-to-ground transmission capability and interoperability of Cubic's TCDL. In three separate tests this year, sponsored by industry partners and government agencies, Cubic's digital data link was used for multibeam communications, transmission of rocket telemetry data, and real-time video streaming during a counterterrorism coun·ter·ter·ror

"These tests, in which our data link performed magnificently, and the fact that the U.S. Navy chose Cubic to develop a wideband communications data link system, demonstrate that our data link technology meets the DoD's goals for an interoperable Common Data Link (CDL) and TCDL system," says Richard M. Lober, senior vice president and general manager of Cubic's Communications Business Unit.

Cubic's proven interoperable data link technology also figures strongly in Thales' decision to tap Cubic as a team member on the British Ministry of Defence's Watchkeeper tactical UAV UAV Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

program. The Watchkeeper program is the critical element of the MOD's plan for a network-enabled communications capability for Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR (programming, tool) ISTAR - An experimental IPSE from Imperial Software Technology. ).

Cubic also has been working closely with Ultra Electronics, a coproduction partner in the UK, on a risk reduction study for the Watchkeeper program.

"Our successful track record in supplying our surveillance and control data link (SCDL SCDL Symbiosis Center for Distance Learning (Maharashtra, India)

) for the UK's ASTOR system, along with our established UK based manufacturing partners and interoperable CDL, make us the logical choice for the data link provider on Watchkeeper UAV," added Lober.

Also featured at Shepherd's will be Cubic's avionics equipment for locating and recovering missing or downed personnel. Cubic offers a single system approach that is UAV compatible and interoperable with every survival radio.
