Cubic Defense Systems Awarded Contract To Procure Rangeless Air Combat Training System for Alpena, Mich. Combat Readiness Training Center.


SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 1998--Cubic Defense Systems Inc. has been awarded a $2.8 million contract to provide a rangeless air combat training system for the U.S. Air Force's Air National Guard Combat Readiness Training Center at Alpena, Mich., the company announced today.

The contract was awarded to Cubic through the Range Instrumentation Systems Program Office of the Air Force's Aeronautical Systems Center at Eglin Air Force Base Eglin Air Force Base is the home of the United States Air Force 96th Air Base Wing of the Air Force Materiel Command, and is also headquarters for more than 45 associate units. , Fla.

Since KITS was installed at Kadena in August 1997, it has flown more than 4,300 sorties.

Alpena will be the second installation to receive the Cubic rangeless air combat training pods, AN/ASQ-T34. Included in the installation will be a limited live-monitor capability that will allow viewing of the air combat training mission in real time. The contract also includes one year of contractor logistics support and an option for an additional year. The system is expected to have an initial operating capability (IOC) during early fall 1998.

This will be the fourth Global Positioning System-based air combat training system fielded or soon to be fielded by Cubic. Other systems include the GPS upgrade to the Tyndall Air Force Base Tyndall Air Force Base is a base of the United States Air Force in Bay County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,757 at the 2000 census. The base is operated by the 325th Fighter Wing. , Fla. Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI), and the KITS rangeless air combat training system installed at the USAF's Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, and the soon-to-be-fielded expansion and replacement of the USAF Red Flag Measurement and Debriefing System (RFMDS RFMDS Red Flag Measurement and Debriefing System (US Air Force) ) with the Nellis Air Combat Training System (NACTS NACTS Nellis Air Combat Training System (US Air Force) ).
