Crystal structure and characterization of a new open-framework coordination polymer generated from Co[(saccharinate).sub.2]6[H.sub.2]) and 1,4-Bis(3-pyridyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene. (South Carolina Academy of Sciences Abstracts).A new coordination polymer containing open channels has been prepared from the reaction of Co[(saccharinate).sub.2]6[H.sub.2]) with the bidentate bi·den·tate adj. Having two teeth or toothlike parts. Adj. 1. bidentate - having toothlike projections that are themselves toothed rough - of the margin of a leaf shape; having the edge cut or fringed or scalloped ligand 1,4-bis(3-pyridyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene (L2) in a methylene methylene /meth·y·lene/ (meth?i-len) the bivalent hydrocarbon radical —CH2— or CH2dbond. meth·yl·ene n. chloride/ethanol solvent mixture. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P-1, with lattice parameters a= 7.6893 (5) [Angstrom angstrom (ăng`strəm), abbr. Å, unit of length equal to 10−10 meter (0.0000000001 meter); it is used to measure the wavelengths of visible light and of other forms of electromagnetic radiation, such as ultraviolet ], b= 11.0169 (7) [Angstrom], c= 11.2369 (7) [Angstrom], [alpha]= 66.2610 [(10).sup.[omicron om·i·cron n. [(10).sup.[omicron]], [gamma]=74.6740 [(10).sup.[omicron]]. The
structure consists of one-dimensional chains formed by octahedrally
coordinated Co(II) ions that are bridged by L2. The packing of these
chains generates a framework with infinite channels parallel to the
crystallographic crys·tal·log·ra·phy n. The science of crystal structure and phenomena. crys tal·log a axis. Further stabilization of the framework is
achieved through interchain and interehain hydrogen bonds between
coordinated water molecules and sacchrinate anions. Disordered guest
molecules, which could not be crystallographicaily modeled, occupy the
channels. The synthesis, characterization, and inclusion chemistry of
this material will be presented.
