The parasite cryptosporidium cryptosporidium (krĭp'tōspərĭd`ēəm), genus of protozoans having at least four species; they are waterborne parasites that cause the disease cryptosporidiosis.  has been linked to many outbreaks of disease due to its presence in water supplies.

As readers will appreciate, cryptosporidium is a particularly difficult organism to control, and specific filtration methods are required to guarantee complete protection.

In order to provide a filtration system that effectively removes cryptosporidium, domnick hunter Ltd of Durham Road, Birtley, Co-Durham, tel:0191-410 5121 have been working closely with Thames Water Thames Water, known originally as the Thames Water Authority and after privatization as Thames Water Utilities Limited, is the utility responsible for water supply and waste water treatment in parts of Greater London, Surrey, Wiltshire, and the Thames Valley in the  Utilities Ltd.
