, based in Chicago, has reached an agreement with a Michigan concrete crushing plant operator to improve dust control at the plant.

The EPA and Demolition Contractors Inc. agreed that the Grand Rapids Grand Rapids, city (1990 pop. 189,126), seat of Kent co., SW central Mich., on the Grand River; inc. 1850. The second largest city in the state, it is a distribution, wholesale, and industrial center for an area that yields fruit, dairy products, farm produce, , Mich.-based company will pay a $55,000 penalty and make $46,000 worth of modifications to its plant to address alleged violations of federal and state clean-air regulations.

Companies that violate the Clean Air Act can voluntarily propose environmental projects as part of their settlements. EPA may reduce monetary penalties if it believes a project will cut pollution significantly and goes beyond what is required by EPA regulations.

An EPA administrative complaint filed alleged that Demolition Contractors had two shortcomings A shortcoming is a character flaw.
