FRESH talks are to be held on Monday Monday: see week.  to try to secure the jobs of aerospace workers on Deeside.

Monday's meeting between Trade and Industry Secretary Alistair Darling and the heads of Airbus and its parent group EADS comes as the commercial outlook for a flagship project at Broughton, near Chester, looks a lot tougher.

Airbus has sharply raised the break-even point break-even point - In the process of implementing a new computer language, the point at which the language is sufficiently effective that one can implement the language in itself.  for its A380 superjumbo to take into account delays of two years in delivering the first of the new jets to airlines and cash shortfalls in the aircraft project.

It now says that it needs to sell 420 of the double-decker jets, which have a price tag of about pounds 165m, to start breaking even. It's a big jump from last year's forecast of 270 and further undermines the commercial viability of the jet. Airbus now needs to sell another 260 super-jumbos worth pounds 40bn before it starts to turn a profit on the project.

The current order book has been static for the past year at 159 orders from 16 carriers but Airbus is still confident it will eventually sell 750.
