Crown solicitor 'could face a third charge'.


A CARDIFF lawyer charged with misconduct in public office and attempting to pervert the course of justice had his bail renewed in a preliminary hearing yesterday.

 yesterday alongside co-defendant, Saifur Rahman Saifur Rahman (Bengali: ছয়ফুর রহমান) is a Bangladeshi politician, and the former Finance Minister of Bangladesh.  Khan, 36, of Ty Gwyn Avenue, Penylan, Cardiff.

Khan, who runs a property business in Cardiff, is charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and aiding and abetting misconduct in public office.

Prosecutor Sandip Patel told Swansea Crown Court yesterday both men could now face a third charge of corruption.

Mr Patel told presiding judge presiding judge n. 1) in both state and federal appeals court, the judge who chairs the panel of three or more judges during hearings and supervises the business of the court.  John Diehl an application to bring the third charge had been made to the Attorney General.

Ibrahim and Khan were arrested on August 20 this year following an undercover police investigation.

Both had their conditional bail renewed yesterday. The bail has been backed by sureties of pounds 150,000 each provided by their families.

The offences are alleged to have happened between June and August this year.

Father of three Ibrahim has been suspended from his job.

He has been regularly prosecuting in trials in Newport and Cardiff Crown Courts.

Khan and Ibrahim will again appear before Swansea Crown Court on November 20.
