The crown prince took part in the Niinamesai (Festival for the New Tasting) held at the palace's Shinkaden hall together with other male members of the imperial family. Female members of the imperial family do not attend the rite. The Imperial Household Agency The Imperial Household Agency (宮内庁 Kunaichō said the crown prince's wife, Princess Masako, who is due to give birth shortly, is in good shape and quietly waiting for the delivery at the Crown Prince's Palace. The Niinamesai, which is held from the evening of Nov. 23 to the early hours Nov. 24 annually, is the most important rite of the year for imperial families. The rite has been performed from ancient times. It was supposedly first performed by the divine imperial ancestor ANCESTOR, descents. One who has preceded another in a direct line of descent; an ascendant.
