Paul Doherty, an English headmaster who also writes as Paul Harding Paul Harding is the name of:

  • Paul Harding, pen-name for English writer P. C. Doherty
and Michael Clynes, has penned 11 medieval mysteries featuring Hugh Corbett. clerk to the English court in the 13th century. These two novels are typical of his fine work. Crown in Darkness details the aftermath of the sudden death in 1286 of Alexander III, King of Scotland, whose horse slips off a rain-slicked cliff during a terrible storm. Perhaps it's an accident, but Corbett's master, the Chancellor of England, doubts it and sends his clerk to investigate. Corbett knows he's on the trail of a ruthless adversary after being viciously attacked several times. Suspects include the French envoy de Crayon and the king's French wife, still a virgin after five months of marriage. In Spy in Chancery Corbett again faces de Crayon, both in England and France. Philip IV of France “Philip the Fair” redirects here. For Philip the Handsome, see Philip I of Castile.

P.C. Doherty has a historian's eye for period detail and a dramatist's ear for realistic dialogue, His characters are complicated and believable. The stories are given the full-voiced treatment by Paul Matthews, who has a way with accents, He is especially good at the action scenes. Listeners who enjoy the Hugh Corbett stories will also like the Brother Athestan mysteries and the Canterbury Tales Canterbury Tales: see Chaucer, Geoffrey.
