) and Data Protection solutions, today announced the 2.0 release of Crossroads SurePath[TM] ReadVerify Appliance (RVA RVA rabies vaccine adsorbed; see rabies vaccine, under vaccine. ). RVA provides end users the ability to proactively manage and monitor the integrity, performance and utilization of the customer's tape library, drives, and media.

What is Crossroads' SurePath ReadVerify Appliance (RVA)?

RVA is a family of unique, plug-and-play, stand-alone appliances that enables the user to monitor and manage the overall readability of data written to tape. RVA proactively alerts and reports on potential tape media degradation and the overall health of your backup systems. RVA provides the capability to manage the backup environment by monitoring, detecting and reporting on actual drive utilization and performance. With these intuitive reports, the user can optimize the use of their tape drives, correct imbalances, remove degrading media (before it causes backup or recovery failures), and be alerted to poorly performing tape drives that could cause ongoing errors. The RVA sits outside of the data path and is simple to install, in most cases less than 15 minutes is required. The Crossroads ReadVerify Appliance is the tool that users have needed to ensure that their data written to tape is readable and recoverable BEFORE it is needed.

Why Do Companies Need ReadVerify Appliance (RVA)?

THE PROBLEM - With more than 347,000 tape libraries installed worldwide in 2005, a yearly growth of 7% and forecasts exceeding 455,000 tape libraries by 2011 (Source: Freeman Reports A series of technical reports on data storage devices originally developed by Freeman Associates, Inc., Santa Barbara, CA (www.freemaninc.com). For more than two decades, they provided exhaustive detail about the disk and tape industry, including up-to-date data on technology, capacities,  2006), companies and governments rely on tape libraries as their primary and most common data storage medium worldwide. Although petabytes of business-critical information are being stored daily on tapes and exabytes of data are stored yearly, over 30% of data restoration efforts fail. IT managers have typically been able to cross their fingers and hope for successful backup and data recovery activities yet, as compliance requirements Compliance requirements are a series of directives established by United States Federal government agencies that summarize hundreds of Federal laws and regulations applicable to Federal assistance (also known as Federal aid or Federal funds).  and penalties have become more stringent over the last 5 years, it is now imperative that IT managers be provided with affordable solutions that ensure the guaranteed, timely and full recovery of data stored on tapes.

THE SOLUTION - "Tape backup Using magnetic tape for storing duplicate copies of hard disk files. Users can add an internal or external tape drive to their desktop computers for backup purposes, and files are typically copied to the tapes using a backup utility that updates on a periodic schedule.  and tape media specifically are viable solutions for data protection and long-term data archive," said Jon Toigo, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  & President of Toigo Partners International. "Unfortunately, many environments are not managed properly to maximize the value and long-term properties of tape backup. The Crossroads ReadVerify appliance is the tool providing end users with the information to manage their environment and realize the full value of their tape storage solution."

Since the release of RVA in February 2007, companies of all sizes have acknowledged the need for data restoration assurance solutions like RVA including: OnRamp, Farm Credit Bureau, Texas Advanced Computing Center The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at the University of Texas at Austin, United States, is a research center for advanced computational science, engineering and technology.  (TACC TACC Total Allowable Commercial Catch (fisheries management)
