Crossroads Announces Data Mover Appliance for SAN Backup Solutions; DataMover 240f Complements Information Lifecycle Management - ILM - Storage Strategies.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Crossroads Systems(R) Inc. (Nasdaq:CRDS CRDS Contribution pour Le Remboursement de la Dette Sociale (French: Social Debt Repayment Contribution)

), a leading global provider for storage networking solutions, today announced the DataMover 240f Appliance that will complement Information Lifecycle Management Information Lifecycle Management refers to a wide-ranging set of strategies for administering storage systems on computing devices. Specifically, four categories of storage strategies may be considered under the auspices of ILM.  (ILM) storage strategies through a range of advanced features supporting automation of policy-based storage management, enterprise class performance, and system monitoring A System Monitor (SM) is a process within a distributed system for collecting and storing state data.

There are many issues involved with designing and implementing a system monitor.
 of hosts, drives, and media for improved utilization and management of storage resources. The DataMover 240f will work with leading data protection applications for Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) backup solutions.

"The DataMover 240f will be ideally suited to address current trends in networked storage where increasingly intelligent network solutions are required," said Rob Sims Rob Sims (b. December 6, 1983) is an American football offensive guard, who currently plays for the National Football League's Seattle Seahawks. He was drafted in round four, pick 128 of the 2006 NFL Draft. , Crossroads president and chief executive officer. "As the first product for our Network Storage Controller family, the DataMover will be a Fibre appliance designed for a high level of storage functionality that increases backup and recovery performance, reliability, security and manageability of storage resources at a lower solution cost, as compared to traditional backup choices."

"The Crossroads DataMover 240f will help to make backups more measurable, manageable and repeatable," said Jerome Wendt, a storage analyst specializing in the field of open-systems storage and SANs, and who has managed storage for small- and large-sized organizations in this capacity. "It is one of those technologies that, when used in combination with other emerging technologies, will give companies a solid avenue to address their backup woes. Capitalizing on existing infrastructure investments and juxtaposing itself next to snapshots and inexpensive disks, the DataMover 240f will present a significant new solution that can help organizations heal their long broken backup processes."

Evolving from Crossroads Storage Routing platforms, the DataMover 240f will represent the next step in intelligent appliances from Crossroads with advanced support for automated backup solutions for disk-to-disk, disk-to-tape, or combinations of these scenarios in which data protection applications can leverage the DataMover 240f as the work horse for moving data. With the DataMover 240f, ILM strategies can benefit from improved data transfers between primary to secondary or nearline storage Nearline storage (where Nearline is a contraction of Near-online) is a term used in computer science to describe an intermediate type of data storage. It is a compromise between online storage (constant, very rapid access to data) and offline storage (infrequent , such as needed as needed prn. Overall performance is improved over traditional methods because the DataMover 240f can handle larger data sets while also enhancing data streaming to ensure that processes can be completed in a fraction of the time. Packaged in an affordable offering, the DataMover 240f can provide robust performance for any size organization.

Supporting Crossroads corporate strategy for Intelligence At The Edge, the DataMover 240f will provide a powerful combination of intelligent networking capabilities, including:

--Enterprise Class Performance - Optimized performance with error recovery for data path conditioning will ensure reliable data movement and minimal stop-and-go backup jobs, avoiding "shoe shining" of tape resources;

--Ease of Use to Reduce SAN Management Costs and Complexity - Simple "point and click" configuration choices and a convenient "store and forward" capability will reduce redundant setup tasks for service professionals and end-users;

--Automated Management Capabilities - Improved management of SAN configurations, performance and reliability with features that will include dynamic storage allocation Noun 1. storage allocation - (computer science) the assignment of particular areas of a magnetic disk to particular data or instructions
allocation
, target reset, enterprise custom mapping, and server-free backup; and,

--Access Controls for Security - Increased security with Access Controls will enable sharing of storage resources among multiple hosts while also protecting those resources from spurious inquiries that would otherwise slow performance;
