Crosspoint Solutions PC port powers Windows-based FPGA users through the 10K-Gate barrier.

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 1995--Crosspoint Solutions Inc. announced today that the company has ported its design tool suite to the PC platform environment with versions available for Windows 3.1 and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. .

Windows 95 support will be made available in a second release in early 1996. Customer evaluation is underway at this time for the first tools release, and shipping will occur before year end.

Called "CPTools/PC," the new Design Environment bundles a Crosspoint Solutions-developed front-end design kit for ViewLogic's Workview EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board.  tools and a low-cost programmer (1) A hardware device used to customize a programmable logic chip such as a PAL, GAL, EPROM, etc. See PROM programmer.

Crosspoint Solutions vice president of marketing, Mike Levis, "Because our FPGAs are `gate-array like,' the availability of Crosspoint Solutions' CPTools/PC suite, coupled with ViewLogic's Workview Design tools, provides system designers with the capability of designing FPGAs on a PC that are true replacements for high-density, high-performance gate arrays."

Crosspoint Solutions Inc. was founded in 1989 to develop and market the first real fully user-programmable Gate Array.

The company's FPGAs feature compatible gate array architecture, and employ the same industry-standard EDA (design) tools and libraries as the leading ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick."
