CrossComm chosen as winner for Formula One Racing Team.

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 1997--CrossComm Corporation and MiTech, one of CrossComm's United Kingdom system integrators, announced today it has won a contract valued at $150,000 to provide the Mild Seven Benetton Renault Formula One racing This article focuses on a specific subtopic of Formula One.

Bandwidth Adds Valuable Seconds

The contract involves the installation of an ATM network between the Benetton's manufacturing floor, offices and the wind tunnel wind tunnel, apparatus for studying the interaction between a solid body and an airstream. A wind tunnel simulates the conditions of an aircraft in flight by causing a high-speed stream of air to flow past a model of the aircraft (or part of an aircraft) being tested.  it uses for testing the aerodynamics aerodynamics, study of gases in motion. As the principal application of aerodynamics is the design of aircraft, air is the gas with which the science is most concerned.  of the racing cars This article is about the Welsh pop band. CrossComm has been chosen by Benetton because of the company's ability to provide a solution that offers the kind of high bandwidth, high speed and reliability essential for generating and distributing the computer assisted design of a winning Formula One race car where, in this industry, every fraction of a second counts.

"CrossComm has won the contract because we are clearly able to provide the fastest, most up to date capability, with our high speed ATM and LAN switching

, reliability, which together with the scaleability of the solution ensures that CrossComm will continue to back Benetton's position as a premier Formula One team."

Shared to Switch Environment

The installation will replace the single Ethernet environment, running at 10Mbps, which is currently shared by over 130 users. The building where the two office and manufacturing floors are located will be linked with switched Ethernet segment technology. The new technology will provide some dedicated ports for file servers as well as high speed links to workstations improving capacity and allowing the users to access the network at speeds of 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 155Mbps. The new network will also be able to handle video traffic from race meetings. A structured cabling environment with a fiber backbone will connect the three CrossComm XL20 chassis which are located in each location. Each chassis will house an AES ATM Edge Switch and XLX ATM Switch and will be managed by CrossComm's IMS (1) See IP Multimedia Subsystem.

Eric Thickett, Managing Director for MiTech said, "The CrossComm network is clearly able to provide the flexibility and speed which Benetton requires to maintain its competitive edge and carry on with winning."
