He is married to his wife Allison and they have two children together.  through his first season of management.

Colin Terence Cooper (born February 28, 1967 in Durham, England) is a former English footballer, who spent most of his career at Middlesbrough and
 will replace him as reserve team boss.

The 52-year-old took charge of Sunderland the last time they reached an FA Cup final, in 1992, having led the Division Two side all the way to Wembley as caretaker.

But the South Shields-born coach's spell as full-time manager proved short-lived. He was sacked in February 1993 and replaced by player-manager Terry Butcher Terence Ian "Terry" Butcher (born December 28 1958 in Singapore) is an English football manager who is currently manager of Brentford having been appointed on 24 April 2007[1]. .

Crosby also managed Oxford United, as well as serving as No 2 to Dennis Smith at York City, Sunderland, Oxford and West Bromwich Albion, and Jim Smith at Derby County. He took charge of Boro's second string two years ago.

"It will be important to have someone with Malcolm's experience alongside me to help with the day-to-day challenges," said Southgate, for whom the role of Premiership manager will be his first coaching job. "He has so much experience at all levels at several different clubs."

Steve Round ( who moves from assistant manager to head coach ( and Steve Harrison, along with Paul Barron, will remain on the coaching staff having played key roles under Southgate's predecessor, Steve McClaren.

"I would never have taken this job if there hadn't been such high quality management staff available to support me," said Southgate, who retired from playing upon being appointed.

"I've tried to structure my staff to ensure we have quality in all areas."

Southgate's appointment is yet to be rubber stamped by the Premier League. League rules state all managers must hold a Uefa Pro Licence or FA Diploma and the former centre-back has neither.

But in making the appointment before getting official approval, chairman Steve Gibson has shown his determination to press on regardless. Harrison and Round both hold Pro Licences.
