Backup Express supports the industry-standard Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol) An open standard for backing up data in a heterogeneous environment. Developed by Network Appliance and IntelliGuard Software, NDMP uses a common data format which is written to and read from drivers for the specific disk and ), and works with network-attached storage See NAS.  (NAS) appliances built on CrosStor NAS software, which provides an NDMP interface. Backup Express is an enterprise backup solution that supports NDMP on a variety of hosts, including the same UNIX and Windows NT/2000 platforms supported by CrosStor NAS. Backup Express is compatible with all leading tape libraries and tape drive technologies.

CrosStor NAS allows computer hardware OEMs to create multi-protocol filer solutions for enterprise networks, where there is growing interest in industry-standard data protection solutions.
