The company produces specialty chemicals used for polymers, fire suppressants and retardants, pool and spa water (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange : CK) today announced that it will invest $30 million to expand capacity at its facility in Sistersville, West Virginia Sistersville is a city in Tyler County, West Virginia, along the Ohio River. The population was 1,588 at the 2000 census. The Sistersville Ferry crosses the Ohio River to the unincorporated community of Fly in Monroe County, Ohio. to produce organofunctional silanes. The new capacity will come on stream in the first quarter of 2002 and will boost the company's global production of silanes by 20 percent. "Strong demand for our silanes, especially in adhesives, coatings and sealants serving the growing transportation and construction industries, has made this expansion necessary to maintain our position as a leading global supplier," stated Vincent A. Calarco, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Crompton. Crompton announced a $50 million expansion of its sulfur silanes capacity at Termoli, Italy in November 1999. This doubling of production capacity is scheduled to be fully on stream in the second quarter of 2001.
