WREXHAM striker Marc Williams Marc Williams, born July 27th, 1988, is a young striker currently playing in League Two with Wrexham FC. Williams made his under-21 debut against Northern Ireland in 2006. In his second game for the squad Williams came off the bench and scored twice in a 3-2 defeat to Israel.  says he is 'gutted' by a foot fracture that looks to have brought his season to a premature end after he was stretchered off during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Salisbury City at the Racecourse.

The teenager, whose 13 league goals have helped put the Dragons into the Blue Square Premier promotion mix, was the victim of a freak non-contact accident that left him with a broken metatarsal metatarsal /meta·tar·sal/ (met?ah-tahr´sal)

Contemplating a minimum of six weeks recovery time, Williams said yesterday: "I can't believe what happened. We have got ourselves into a good position in the table and I wanted to play my part in finishing the job.

"So to say I'm gutted is an understatement, but these things happen and my immediate priority now is to stay positive and work as hard as I can to start playing again in the shortest possible time.

Williams confirmed that the break was the result of a non-contact incident. "I tried to get on the end of a quickly-taken Jon Brown

free kick, but as I moved off I heard a pop and knew straight away that something was wrong.

"I don't know how it happened, maybe my boot or a stud got caught in the ground, but it's a huge disappointment for me."

The injury is a massive blow too for Dragons manager Dean Saunders, who admitted he was unlikely to sign a replacement ahead of tomorrow's visit to promotion rivals Crawley.

"It's a bit of a nightmare for us, to be honest, and for Marc as well," he said. "He could be out for at least six weeks, which is a massive blow because he has scored 16 goals for me since I joined the club. Marc will be more disappointed than anyone, but that's a part of football that everyone experiences at some stage."

Saunders went on: "I'm going to have to replace Marc and I'm already looking around, but it's no easy task and nothing is likely to happen in the next couple of days."
