ANXIOUS Celtic bosses last night jetted Scott Brown to Amsterdam for crunch talks with the ankle specialist who helped Cristiano Ronaldo win his fitness battle at Real Madrid.

Brown's long-running injury, which has been troubling him since the final few weeks of last season, has shown no signs of responding to a series of different treatments and fears are growing inside Parkhead that their pounds 4million midfielder may be unable to play again this year.

Brown went under the knife for surgery on the damaged joint in the summer but the operation was not successful.

Celtic's medical team had hoped a course of steroid injections might speed up his recovery but the latest jab has failed to make any significant improvement, prompting this latest decision to send the player to see Dutch expert Niek van Dijk.

Return Van Dijk was the man Madrid turned to in a desperate bid to get Ronaldo back into action after the former Manchester United pin-up suffered a similar ankle injury.

And while Ronaldo i s expected to make his return to top-team action tonight in a Champions League clash with FC Zurich, Brown will be holed up in the Amsterdam clinic hoping for an answer to his own lengthy problems.

Brown has been sidelined for more than four weeks by the mystery complaint.

And Celtic have become so concerned they have also been considering sending him to Serbiato undergo thesamecontroversial"placenta" treatment that has been favoured recently by a string of crocked Premiership stars, including Arsenal's Robin van Persie. But instead Brown flew out to Holland last night for a far moreconventionalconsultation as theplayer and his clubpintheir hopeson the doctor who successfully cured world football's golden boy.
