Croc hunter remembered: with his daring stunts and love of animals, Steve Irwin won fans around the world.

Stephen Robert Irwin (February 22, 1962 – September 4, 2006), known simply as Steve Irwin and nicknamed "The Crocodile Hunter
 was known to people around the world as the Crocodile Hunter. But Irwin, who was killed on September 4, was much more than an entertaining daredevil. He was a wildlife conservationist who sought to protect the planet's most endangered creatures.

"I was actually put on this Earth to promote conservation so people can protect wilderness areas, love wildlife, and feel energy, passion, and enthusiasm for our beautiful native animal species," Irwin told JS in 2002.

The star of Animal Planet's The Crocodile Hunter died while filming a new television series along Australia's Great Barrier Reel As Irwin swam after a fleet of stingrays, one attacked him, possibly in self-defense (Law) in protection of self, - it being permitted in law to a party on whom a grave wrong is attempted to resist the wrong, even at the peril of the life of the assailiant.

Such incidents are extremely rare. In the past decade, only 17 deaths from stingrays have been recorded worldwide.
