Critical Transmissions; Feb. 22 Program Looks at Communication During a Pandemic Outbreak.

WASHINGTON -- The International Section of the Public Relations Society of America The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), based in New York City, is the world's largest organization for public relations professionals. The organization has more than 30,000 professional and student members, and is organized into 112 chapters nationwide.  (National Capital Chapter) will host a panel discussion on communicating during pandemic outbreaks on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the National Press Club.

The program, entitled "Critical Transmissions: Managing Communication During a Pandemic Outbreak," will examine how effectively government leaders, the media, and professional spokespeople would handle communication flow if pandemic illnesses such as avian flu, SARS, or a modern strain of the 1918 pandemic flu virus broke out tomorrow around the globe. The panel will consider questions such as how effectively medical information would reach those who need it, whether mass-panic could be avoided, and who, if anyone, would be "in charge" of such communication efforts. The answers to these questions and others will be tackled by a diverse panel of experts. There will be a question-and-answer session following the panel discussion.

Speakers will include Dr. Bradley Clark, Chief of Infrastructure Protection, Risk Management Division, National Biosurveillance Integration System for the Department of Homeland Security Noun 1.
