See communications.  software and services, today announced that Telecom Italia Telecom Italia is formerly a partially state-owned Italian telco. It was once known as SIP, and it has the largest user base in Italy.

Telecom Italia also owns shares in Telecom Argentina and Telecom Personal, fixed and cellular networks in Argentina.
Lab (TILAB TILAB Telecom Italia Lab ), the research center of Telecom Italia Group, is successfully using its Identity Management solution to manage more than 1,500 employee profiles. Using the Critical Path solution TILAB has significantly reduced the time it takes to provision and update user profiles, ensuring new employees are up and running quickly and eliminating security issues related to existing or former employees.

TILAB selected Critical Path because its meta-directory solution met several key functionality requirements, offered flexible customization options and provided automatic information management. The Critical Path Meta-Directory Server(TM) was one of the first data integration solutions on the market, and it out-performed other solutions in TILAB's original evaluation. TILAB today uses the Critical Path solution to synchronize employee data housed on multiple directories and databases.

Earlier this year, TILAB extended its Identity Management solution by working with Critical Path partner Netegrity to implement Netegrity's SiteMinder(TM) Single Sign-On An identification system that lets users log into multiple Web sites on the Internet with one username and password. Single sign-on systems are also used within an enterprise, enabling users to access all authorized resources in the local network using the same username and password.  (SSO See single sign-on and CSO.

The combined solutions enable TILAB's employees to access most Web applications with a single user name and password combination, resulting in fewer help desk calls, less strain on IT resources and improved workforce productivity. TILAB's next step is to integrate its SAP environment with its existing Critical Path Meta-Directory Server and Netegrity's SiteMinder, which it plans to do in the coming months.
