This book was written to help clinicians develop skills in critically assessing scientific literature to find evidence that they can use in clinical practice. The authors have achieved their purpose with brevity Brevity Adonis’ garden of short life. [Br. Lit.: I Henry IV] bubbles symbolic of transitoriness of life. [Art: Hall, 54] cherry fair cherry orchards where fruit was briefly sold; symbolic of transience. and clarity. The first chapter presents fundamental terms and concepts related to research design and methods. The next 2 chapters discuss where to look for evidence, evidence-based practice, and, in general, how to start a critical review of the literature. Subsequent chapters provide information and guidelines on how to review articles on outcome measures, diagnostic tests, treatment efficacy and effectiveness, economic evaluation, and meta-analysis. The last 2 chapters present information about international collaborations designed to make published and unpublished evidence available for use by clinicians. These chapters also present the authors' views on health care systems in the 21st century. The book is well organized and illustrated liberally with figures and tables that complement the text well. In the appendix, many of the tables are reproduced as helpful checklists of points to consider when critiquing the various types of scientific literature. There are exercises at the end of each chapter (which can be used along with reproductions of published papers in the appendix) that will help reinforce learning. An adequate reference list is also included at the end of each chapter. The text is written for clinicians who want to appropriately use evidence provided by the literature. Thus, the book is a useful resource for physical rehabilitation clinicians at any stage of their career. The book is also of value to physical therapist students and occupational therapist occupational therapist A person trained to help people manage daily activities of living–dressing, cooking, etc, and other activities that promote recovery and regaining vocational skills Salary $51K + 4% bonus. The book, however, does not have the breadth or depth to help those who wish to learn how to conduct research.
