Inc. magazine unveiled its annual list today at Inc.com and company profiles will appear in the September issue of the magazine. Criterion, a leading provider of information technology services to government and commercial clients, was also recognized as the No. 2 company in the Washington, D.C. region and No. 2 among the Top 10 Indian-run companies. Since its founding in 2005, the company has grown by 8,433 percent. "It is an honor to earn a top spot on the prestigious annual Inc. 500 list," said Promod Sharma, president and CEO of Criterion. "We not only ranked No. 10 on the overall list, but we were honored as the fastest growing government services company in the country. This is the first year Criterion was eligible for the Inc. 500. The company's impressive growth is the result of the vision of our exceptional management team, our employees' commitment to partnering with customers to deliver on their missions, and our ongoing commitment to innovation." Led by a team of recognized experts that includes former CEOs and several former government CIOs and CTOs, the company designs and supports mission-critical systems for the Intelligence Community, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Defense (DoD), federal civilian agencies and commercial organizations. "If you want to know which companies are going to change the world, look at the Inc. 500," said Inc. editor Jane Berentson. "These are the most dynamic, fast-growth companies in the nation, the ones finding innovative solutions to problems, creating smart systems, and inventing products we soon discover we can't live without. The Inc. 500 list is Inc. magazine's tribute to American business ingenuity and ambition." Methodology The 2009 Inc. 500 measures revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of 2005, and therefore be able to show four full calendar years of sales. Additionally, they had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent--not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies--as of December 31, 2008. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2005 is $200,000; the minimum for 2008 is $2 million. About Inc.
