Criminal's number comes up at bingo hall.

There is an old saying that you make your own luck. If you engage in criminal acts, sometimes your number comes up prematurely. According to a report on WKRG TV, armed robber Alton Prewitt, 20, charged boldly into a bingo hall in Pensacola, Florida, on October 22 and loudly demanded money from the small crowd of garners. According to several of the witnesses, Prewitt waved the gun menacingly around toward patrons, and then fired at least one shot into the ceiling of the room to emphasize the threat implied in his demand.

One of the Beachside Bingo customers, Chad England, refused to submit to the bullying threats. Indicating later that he feared for the safety of other customers and himself, he drew his own weapon and fired, striking Prewitt squarely in the chest. Prewitt went down without firing another shot.

"It looks like a clear case of self-defense," reported the spokesperson for the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, Glenn Austin. Austin says he believes England was within his rights to shoot the suspect. "He was defending himself and everyone else in the parlor."

A provision in Florida law, sometimes called the "Stand Your Ground Law," or statute, makes it legal, as it should be under the U.S. Constitution and the Second Amendment, to use deadly force against an intruder. Escambia County Sheriff's deputies indicated that no charges will likely be filed against England for his heroic act.
