Crime figures show big fall.

POLICE are celebrating a fall in crime in North Tyneside. New figures show 31% fewer crimes recorded between April and the end of June this year, compared to the same period last year.

Northumbria Police says this equates to 1,043 fewer victims of crime.

According to the research, house burglaries have dropped by 11% in North Tyneside, and thefts of vehicles are down by 41%.

Police chiefs say it is the success of efforts to beef up security in the area, with additional patrols and a crackdown on crime hot-spots using police intelligence.

Chief Supt Gary Calvert, North Tyneside Area Commander, said: "This is very good news for local residents and they should feel reassured by these results for this financial year so far.

"Our neighbourhood policing teams are now well established across North Tyneside and their work with local communities, and close working relationship with partner agencies has made a real difference.

"Their work is very much led by the needs of local people and I am sure this has greatly contributed to this reduction in crime."

Residents had highlighted youth disorder as their biggest concern.

Northumbria Police has worked with other organisations to make sure there are extra services for young people.

New figures show 452 fewer calls to police about youth disorder, compared to last year.
