This 70-page document outlines different strategies and approaches for members of school communities to consider when creating safer learning environments. This BJA-sponsored report offers guidance for school violence prevention and response in the following areas: preventing student violence, preparing a threat assessment strategy, planning and training for actual crises, responding to a crisis (both during and after), considering legal and legislative issues, and covering the crisis in the media. The roles of school staff and administrators, students, parents, law enforcement officials, and the community are discussed. The text also contains actual cases of school violence that provide in-depth information and illustrate the potential value of specific suggestions.
