Cricketers' pounds 135,000 fundraiser.


KIND-hearted city Muslims joined world class cricketers to generate more than pounds 135,000 for charity.

Stars of the Pakistani cricket team Shahid Afridi Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi (Urdu: صاحبزادہ محمد شاہد خان آفریدی  and Younus Khan, hosted the fundraiser at the International Convention centre to talk about the ongoing humanitarian crisis A humanitarian crisis (or "humanitarian disaster") is an event or series of events which represents a critical threat to the health, safety, security or wellbeing of a community or other large group of people, usually over a wide area.  in the Swat Swat (swät), district of the Malakand division, North-West Frontier Province, Pakistan. Saidu Sharif is the capital. The largely inaccessible region is reached by air and through mountain passes from the south and east.  valley region in north west Pakistan.

More than pounds 135,000 was raised by the charity talk and dinner on Monday which will enable Digbethbased Islamic Relief to help thousands of people who are returning home to the region to rebuild their lives.

As a result of the conflict, there is very little or no access to clean water, primary healthcare, trauma counselling and education.

Habib Malik, an aid worker from Islamic Relief, said: "The fact that the event with Shahid Afridi and Younus Khan was sold out and that such a large amount of money was raised, is testimony to the generosity of the Birmingham people and their continued desire to do more to help those suffering in Swat."
