Cricket: Woakes Shining bright; WARWICKSHIRE: 'Wonderful performer' off to training camp.

Byline: By Brian Halford

ECB See electronic code book.  fast bowling Fast bowling, sometimes known as pace bowling, is one of the two main approaches to bowling in the sport of cricket. The other is spin bowling. Practitioners are usually known as fast bowlers or pace bowlers  coach Kevin Shine Kevin James Shine (born February 22, 1969, in Bracknell, Berkshire, England) is a former first-class cricketer and former coach of Somerset County Cricket Club, and the fast-bowling coach for the England cricket team.  has hailed Chris Woakes as a "wonderful performer" in the making as the Warwickshire youngster prepares for a monthlong training camp in the US.

Walmley-product Woakes is heading for the IMG IMG International medical graduate, see there  Academy in Florida along with five of England's other promising young seamers - Jon Clare (Derbyshire), Maurice Chambers (Essex), Chris Jordan and Jade Dernbach (Surrey) and Mark Turner (Somerset).

The 19-year-old, who enjoyed a superb first season in the Bears' first team last summer, will be worked hard in the weeks ahead.

And Woakes reckons Shine has a talent and attitude well worth putting plenty of work into.

"Ashley Giles and Allan Donald think Chris is one of those wonderful low maintenance cricketers,"

Shine said. "You don't have an issue with him and he does everything right.

"He was very successful for the England Under 19s team and had a very good year with Warwickshire last summer. He is a young lad who could be a wonderful performer in the years to come.

"The six lads going to the States will train harder than they have ever trained before.

"It's not about going to Florida for the beaches - they just won't get time. It will be rock solid training.

We have told them it's the toughest period of training they will ever go through.

"First up we will give them a phase when they don't bowl - just strength and conditioning. If you need to make technique changes, it's much easier if you are stronger.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for these lads. They can pit themselves against other athletes to see what it takes to become a world-class athlete. The whole point is to treat them like an Olympic athlete but knowing there is a craft at the other end, the fast bowling.

"One of the major reasons for sending them to the IMG Academy is to bring them back better educated.

"We don't want them to go out there and be machines - we want them to know why they are doing it.

It's not just a boot camp. I want them to come back and say 'I now know how to train for my professional life'."

After Florida, the six bowlers will work under Shine and Neil Killeen, the Durham bowler, at the National Academy in Loughborough, before travelling to the MRF Pace Foundation MRF Pace Foundation is a coaching clinic for training fast bowlers from all over the World. This was created with the help of former Australian pace spearhead Dennis Lillee.  in Chennai to work with Dennis Lillee and Troy Cooley.

Warwickshire batsman Jonathan Trott today withdrew from the England Development Squad which is due to leave for India for a monthlong tour tomorrow.

Trott asked to be released from the tour as he feels he needs a break amid an intense schedule over the last couple of years and the ECB agreed to his request.
