Luke Parker contributed 30 to a fourth-wicket partnership of 72 before medium-pacer Darren Sammy, the pick of the Windies bowlers with 3-69, trapped him and quickly removed Mooen Ali to reduce the home side to 259-5.

Wicket-keeper Tony Frost then weighed in with 37, however, as the sixth-wicket alliance reached 108 at stumps.
