WALLASEY provide the biggest contingent of players for the Littlewoods Gaming Liverpool Competition representative side that begins the defence of the President's Trophy onSunday.

The strength of last year's Competition Premier League champions is acknowledged with the selection of three players,Phil Luxon,Dave Conlan and Paul Thistlewaite, in the line-up for the match at Liverpool CC's Aigbu rth ground (2.00pm).

Snellgrove, who has skippered the Competition to recent Trophy wins in 1998 and 2002,once again leads the team.

His club and fellow Premier League team Leigh are also doubly represented, and the emergence of Huyton again as a Premier side and title challengers has produced call-ups for David Heyes David Alan Heyes (born April 2, 1946) is a British politician and Labour Member of Parliament for Ashton under Lyne.

David Heyes was born in Manchester and was educated at the city's Blackley Technical High School and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in social sciences

But the fine performances of two players in the First Division,Southport skipper Malcolm Swift and Fleetwood Hesketh batsman Neil Rimmer, have also earned places.

``There are a few changes from last year,'' said Snellgrove,``but that's not to say we are not pleased with the side we have got.

``It looks strong and we have players down the order who normally bat much higher, while we have plenty of options with the ball.''

But he would relish the chance of retaining the Trophy. ``I don't think historically many leagues have done it. I have been lucky enough to be involved twice when we have won it and want a good run in this year's, too.''

In a recent warm-up, the Competition beat the Manchester Association by 30 runs, and it gave the selectors a chance to look at one or two of the fringe players.

Northern captain Phil Unsworth and Leigh's Heath Pedrola are unavailable, while Paul Horton, who has deputised for Snellgrove as captain in the past, will be in action for Sefton Park in a league cup tie.

Players from Firwood Bootle and Lytham were not considered because they are involved in the Premier League knockout final.

Snellgrove is hoping that there is a decent crowd to support the Competition.``I attended the county match at Aigburth and the ground was looking very good,''he added.

The side contains only five from that which beat the Durham senior league in last year's final.

Those missing are Andy Batterley, Paul Horton,Richard Hignett,Heath Pedrola, Phil Unsworth and Steve Garvey.
