Cricket: UMPIRE FINGERS NASS AND CADDICK.

Byline: MIKE WALTERS in Peshawar

ENGLAND'S bridge-building tour of Pakistan erupted in another umpiring storm just five days before their first Test here for 13 years.

Pakistani umpire Sajjad Asghar accused Andy Caddick of abusing his country and claimed skipper Nasser Hussain Nasser Hussain (born March 28 1968, Madras (now Chennai, India) is a former Essex and England cricketer. He was born of an Indian father, Jawad (also known as "Joe"), and an English mother, Patricia, who changed her name to Shireen on conversion to Islam.  told him to "clear off" when he complained.

Hussain emphatically denies that his manner was remotely abusive or aggressive when he was collared by Sajjad.

And last night it was revealed that Caddick had apologised to umpire Sajjad and saved himself from possible disciplinary action.

But the bust-up, disfiguring England's four-day match against a Governor's XI, brought unhappy memories of Mike Gatting's infamous finger-jabbing row with Shakoor Rana Shakoor Rana (born April 3 1936 in Amritsar, India, died April 9 2001) was one of the most contorversial cricket umpires in history. The row was sparked by Sajjad's refusal to uphold Caddick's appeal against Akhtar Sarfraz Akhtar Sarfraz (born February 20, 1976, Peshawar) is a Pakistani cricketer who played five ODIs between 1997 to 1998. References

Caddick gave Sarfraz a volley volley /vol·ley/ (vol´e) a number of simultaneous muscle twitches or nerve impulses all caused by the same stimulus.

Then he marched past Sajjad in a huff.

Later Sajjad, a 46-year-old bank clerk, said: "I don't want to repeat what Caddick said because it would cause problems for them in other parts of the country.

"He said something about my country and I can't tolerate that. He can abuse me and my decisions, but he should not say things about my country because he is a guest here."

At the end of Caddick's controversial over, Sajjad summoned Hussain and protested.

Sajjad, who insisted he would report Hussain to the match referee A match referee is an official appointed to oversee professional cricket matches.
