Cricket: Three Lions bowlers can maul young Simmons; SPREADWISE.

Byline: By James Milton

OPENING batsman Lendl Simmons Lendl Mark Platter Simmons (b. 25 January, 1985) in Port of Spain. He is a West Indian cricketer. He played in the 2002 & 2004 Under-19 Cricket World Cup for the West Indies which was held in New Zealand and Bangladesh.  certainly looks a fine prospect for the West Indies West Indies, archipelago, between North and South America, curving c.2,500 mi (4,020 km) from Florida to the coast of Venezuela and separating the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico from the Atlantic Ocean.  but the 24-year old has to be taken on in today's third ODI.

Simmons ground out a gutsy 62 from 105 balls in the first match of the series but on Sunday he was caught behind for a duck off James Anderson James Anderson can refer to these persons:

  • James Anderson (actor)
  • James Anderson (author), British mystery fiction writer
  • James Anderson (writer), American television writer
.

Anderson's early movement and the consistent menace of Stuart Broad made life pretty tough for the West Indies openers in both matches in Guyana.

And Simmons faces an even sterner test now that Andrew Flintoff has returned to fitness after a hip problem.

The Trinidad right-hander has played ten one-day matches for the West Indies, averaging a little over 20 in that time.

Simmons looks to have the temperament to play the anchor role but Anderson, in particular, is capable of producing highquality deliveries early on in an innings.

The Lancashire seamer removed the top three in the West Indies order in the second ODI in Georgetown, while Broad took 3-41 in the first match.

For all Simmons's qualities, he has made a fairly stuttering start to his 50-over career for the West Indies.

His duck in the second ODI was the fourth time in ten knocks that he had been dismissed without scoring, including a firstballer against Scotland back in 2007.

Sporting cannot separate South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa.  and Australia ahead of the first Twenty20 international in Johannesburg.

However, Australia won both of January's meetings with the Proteas over the minimum trip by significant margins - 52 runs in Melbourne and six wickets in Brisbane.

Australia have won 11 and lost seven of their 18 Twenty20 internationals, while South Africa lost seven of their 16 clashes.

With Ricky Ponting Ricky Thomas Ponting (born December 19 1974, in Launceston, Tasmania) is an Australian cricketer and current captain of the Australia national cricket team (for both One-Day International and Test cricket).  at the helm, the Aussies are a slightly more experienced unit than the Proteas, who are led by Twenty20 specialist Johan Botha.

And the nous of players such as Michael Clarke, the Hussey brothers and crafty bowler Nathan Bracken may well be enough to see off South Africa.
