Cricket: S.Africa's weather won IPL.


INDIAN Premier League chairman Lalit Lalit is a left political party in Mauritius. It is opposed to private or any other undemocratic control of the means of human survival on the planet. Lalit traces its origin to workers' and students' protests in the country in 1975.  Modi last night revealed weather conditions were the defining factor in selecting South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa.  over England as hosts of the 2009 tournament.

Modi felt there was a possibility of "70 to 80%" of matches in the UK being affected by adverse weather conditions and confirmed South Africa would stage the lucrative Twenty20 event after it had to be moved away from India because of a clash with national elections.

The move to Africa followed a meeting between Modi and Cricket South Africa Formerly known as the United Cricket Board of South Africa, Cricket South Africa is the governing body for professional and amateur cricket in South Africa. Domestic cricket  chief executive Gerald Majola yesterday.

"The overwhelming reason that we chose South Africa is primarily the weather conditions," he said.

"The weather conditions in South Africa during the month of April and May are more favourable than they would have been in the United Kingdom for hosting the matches."

The schedule for the tournament will be decided in the coming days, while Modi also revealed that the eight-team competition would now begin on April 18, a week later than scheduled, and last just five weeks instead of six.
