Mehrab Hossain (Bengali:
 Jr and Mushfiqur Rahim both reached half-centuries today to guide Bangladesh to 183 for four on the first day of the First Test against New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  in Chittagong.

The pair, who were unbeaten at lunch, added 82 runs in the final session, providing a muchneeded spark after the higher order batsmen struggled to cope with the Black Caps' attack.

At one point the hosts were 44 for four but Hossain Jr (79 not out) and Mushfiqur (59no) injected some impetus with 20 boundaries between them.

In contrast, the four batsmen above them in the order managed just two in total.
