KEVIN PIETERSEN last night raised a glass to his wife Jessica for helping to inspire the stunning century that rescued punch-drunk England in the third Test.

But Pietersen hit a brilliant 129 to guide England to a more respectable 240 for seven at the end of day one.

And he revealed the innings was inspired by Jessica's decision to postpone a trip back to England for a wedding.

Pietersen said: "Jessica knew I wasn't in a happy place and stayed on to give me extra support. She was planning to visit a winery on Sunday and can now go and get as lashed as she wants."

Pietersen was eventually dismissed by debutant De`bu`tant´
