Cricket: Initial fears allayed over Cook injury.

Alastair Nathan Cook (born 25 December, 1984 in Gloucester) is an England cricketer, a left-handed batsman, who currently plays county cricket for Essex and test
 yesterday suffered a suspected dislocation of his right little finger but after an Xray revealed no break he is expected to be fit to bat for Essex in their ongoing match against New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. .

Cook suffered the injury as he dropped a catch at gully, offered by Kiwi captain Daniel Vettori off the bowling of Ryan ten Doeschate Ryan Neil ten Doeschate (born 30 June 1980, Port Elizabeth, Cape Province, South Africa) is a Netherlands cricket player who has represented Western Province and currently plays for Essex. Due to his Dutch ancestry, he plays One-Day International cricket for the The Netherlands.  on day one of four at Chelmsford. He immediately ran from the field, clearly concerned about the blow so close to the first Test against New Zealand at Lord's.

But Essex quickly allayed any fears of his availability for that match, which starts on May 15.

A spokesman said: "We hope he will be fine to play tomorrow but will see how it develops overnight."

It was later confirmed Cook had gone to hospital for a precautionary X-ray.

But after the X-ray it was confirmed there was no break and Cook is expected to be able to bat against the Kiwis today.
