Cricket: IN BRIEF - Hayden departs on high note.


CRICKET: Matthew Hayden Matthew Lawrence Hayden (born 29 October, 1971 in Kingaroy, Queensland to Laurence and Moya Hayden) is an Australian and Queensland cricketer.

Hayden (nicknames: Haydos, Unit
 insists he walks away with "zero regrets" after announcing his retirement from cricket.

The 37-year-old, who departs having scored 8,625 runs at an average of 50.73 over 103 Tests, made his decision public at a press conference in Brisbane yesterday.

Hayden was afforded an emotional farewell with a lap of honour in front of his home crowd at the Gabba between innings in last night's Twenty20 international between Australia and South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa. .

He said: "It's been a hell of a journey - it ends here tonight."
