Mehrab Hossain (Bengali:
 Jr was unbeaten on 42 as Bangladesh laboured to 101 for four at tea on the first day of the First Test against New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  in Chittagong today.

Hossain, batting at number five, injected some much-needed life into the Bangladesh innings with seven boundaries in his 56-ball innings, and remained at the wicket alongside Mushfiqur Rahim, whose 19 off 67 balls was somewhat more pedestrian.

The hosts lost three wickets in the second session however, with Daniel Vettori and Iain O'Brien each claiming two wickets.
