Cricket: Hall set their sights on another twin triumph.

Byline: MIKE McEVOY

NORTHOP HALL Northop Hall is a large village (population 1,665 in 2001) near Mold, Flintshire, Wales. The village is largely residential in character. The village has two pubs, and is near the A55 road. There are active cricket and hockey clubs. , elated after last week's double triumph, have the chance to repeat the feat this weekend when they face two more crucial matches.

After producing a tremendous display to win by eight wickets at second-placed Wallasey in the Chelmere Homes Liverpool Competition last Saturday, Hall then overcame Southport & Birkdale by four wickets at home in the second round of the League Cup on Sunday.

``It was a very good weekend and it looks like our fortunes are changing for the better,'' said Hall's team manager Tudor Jones.

``Everyone played their part and now we are looking to keep this run going for as long as possible.''

Hall entertain top of the table Bootle today. Tomorrow they travel to Gowerton for a Welsh Cup The Welsh Cup is a knock-out football competition contested annually by teams from Wales.

 semi-final.

``Gowerton are top of the South Wales South Wales south nsud m du Pays de Galles  Cricket Association Division One so we are taking on the current leading teams in both of their leagues but we are quite capable of getting two wins'', said the manager confidently.

``We did Bootle a big favour last week by beating second-placed Wallasey so this time we may do Wallasey a favour but I'm only really interested in doing ourselves justice.

``We'll be looking to gain revenge for a defeat at Bootle when we went down by 55 runs. We had then in trouble at one stage of the match but their captain Ian Cockbain, the ex-Lancashire and Cheshire player, got a century and he was their mainstay. We'll have to make plans to deal with him but Bootle have got some other very good players too''.

Jones is delighted with the form of his overseas player Arshad Khan Arshad Khan (Urdu: ارشد خان) (born March 22, 1971 in Peshawar) is a Pakistani cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off break bowler. , the Pakistani Test all-rounder who snapped up 4-40 against Wallasey and 2-7 against Southport with his off-spinners. ``Arshad is also performing very well with the bat, hitting 46 not out and 25 last weekend, so he is an important member of our team but unfortunately he is ineligible for the Gowerton game as no professionals are permitted to play in the Welsh Cup'', said Jones.

Another blow for Hall is the absence of Australian all-rounder Shane Carlton for both matches. Carlton, who has only just returned to the side after a five-week assignment in France, picked up an injury during the Wallasey match and is ruled out.

Dave Powell is a slight doubt after twisting his ankle last week but he is pro-visionally pencilled in for both games along with Paul Trickett who is back from holiday. James Griffiths, currently on duty for the Welsh Under-15s squad against Somerset, is available for both games and David Roache will be back from Ireland in time for the Sunday cup tie. With skipper Dave Kennedy David Kennedy (born January 15, 1953 in Sligo) is a former racing driver from the Republic of Ireland. He was one of his country's first Grand Prix drivers, and is widely seen as having helped pioneer the Irish move into international racing.  still on holiday, Darren Peters Darren W.
