Cricket: Frustrated Vettori kicks heels; WARWICKSHIRE: C&G Trophy tussle washed out.

continues after his Warwickshire debut, in the C&G Trophy against Yorkshire at Headingley, was wrecked by rain.

Just four overs were possible, with the home side reaching 14 without loss, before the deluge arrived to leave the teams with one point each from the Northern Conference fixture.

The wash-out meant nothing in league table terms for the Bears. Three defeats in four games had already left them with only pride and practice to play for in the competition.

But the Leeds rain prevented Heath Streak's misfiring side from honing their poor one-day form. And it also restricted New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  recruit Vettori to four overs fielding and shivering instead of bedding into the team properly.

The left-arm spinner can only hope the weather relents to allow him some sustained action in the championship match with Middlesex at Lord's starting on Wednesday.

Vettori's attempts to get going in cricket on this island throughout his career thus far appear jinxed.

His two appearances at Edg-baston so far have been similarly disjointed.

Vettori first played there in the Kiwis' 1999 Test match against England, which was all over by the third afternoon following a chaotic Friday in which 21 wickets fell.

Five years later he returned to Birmingham for a NatWest series NatWest Series is an annual one day international cricket tournament held in England involving the home side and two of the season's touring teams.

Little wonder that Vettori can't wait to get cracking at Lord's. The forecast for London this week? Wet.

Weather-permitting, Warwickshire will hope to return to winning ways against a Middlesex side who have lost all three of their championship games this season.

As well as Vettori, the Bears will have Ian Bell available while Mark Wagh, who famously struck 315 against Middlesex at Lord's in 2001, is likely to play his first first-team game of the season.
