CRESWELL - Firefighters stopped a fast-moving grass fire before it reached busy Interstate in·ter·state

Crews from the Creswell and Cottage Grove Cottage Grove, village (1990 pop. 22,935), Washington co., SE Minn., near the St. Croix River; inc. 1965. There is farming (cattle, sheep, corn, and soybeans) and manufacturing (chemicals and machinery).  stations fought the blaze, while the Goshen Rural Fire Protection District provided mutual aid. The fire did not threaten any structures.

Department of Transportation employees flagged down traffic to warn drivers of the limited visibility and a maintenance crew used mowers to cut a fire break in the grass along the freeway.

"It gave us a hard time for at least an hour and then we had another hour of cleanup," Eckstine said.

About 10 firefighting rigs were at the blaze, including three water tenders carrying thousands of gallons of water.
