Crews battle 60-acre blaze near Westfir.

WESTFIR - Firefighters spent Sunday evening working to contain a 60-acre wildfire that sparked on forest land just east of where last month's Hemlock hemlock, any tree of the genus Tsuga, coniferous evergreens of the family Pinaceae (pine family) native to North America and Asia. The common hemlock of E North America is T.  Fire started.

No homes are threatened by the fire, Quarnstrom said.

The Forest Service has asked drivers to avoid the area east of the red covered bridge in Westfir, specifically Westfir-Oakridge Road, Westoak Road and Forest Service Road 19, to allow emergency vehicles access to the fire.

Initially reported as a three- to five-acre fire, the blaze spread during the late afternoon hours to about 20 acres when the wind picked up, Quarnstrom said. It quieted down by dusk before picking up again, she said.

Quarnstrom said crews put in a dozer line north of the fire but that the east and western edges were unsecured Sunday evening. "We're not even thinking containment yet," she said.

Crews planned to continue fighting the fire through the night, she said.

A Forest Service fire investigator was headed to the scene Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists.  to try to determine what caused the fire.

Quarnstrom said Forest Service crews were assisted by firefighters from the Oakridge and Westfir fire departments and the Oregon Department of Forestry. Four air tankers dropped fire retardant fire retardant Public health A chemical used to resist combustion, which may contain polybrominated biphenyls and antimony oxide  on the blaze, while a pair of helicopters dumped buckets of water.

Just two weeks ago, firefighters tamed the 136-acre Hemlock Fire, as well as two smaller blazes in the Oakridge-Westfir area.
