Crew Goalie Presthus Joins The Financial Solutions Network in Dublin.

Business Editors

DUBLIN, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 2004

Columbus Crew goalkeeper Tom Presthus has announced his retirement from professional soccer. At the end of the month, Presthus will trade his soccer shoes for wingtips and become a financial advisor for The Financial Solutions Network LLC in Dublin, OH.

Recent "Tommy John" (ligament replacement) surgery on his arm prompted Presthus to change careers. Though the delicate surgery went well, the recovery period is lengthy.

"Financial planning is a logical move for me," says Presthus, who played for The Crew for seven seasons and started in 104 games. "I majored in finance at Southern Methodist University and my dad is a broker in Minneapolis. But I also like the idea of making a career out of helping people reach their goals; I'm really looking forward to becoming a planner."

Presthus has been a superior athlete all his life, though he could have easily become a quadriplegic at age 12 when he broke his neck.

"There was a very strong chance he wouldn't walk again," said his father, Paul Presthus, who played basketball for the University of Minnesota. "But in the end all he did was switch from football and hockey to soccer and basketball."

Presthus made the all-state soccer team in high school and was a four-year starter in soccer for the SMU Mustangs when he went to school there. After graduating from college in 1997 Presthus joined the D.C. United in Washington, D.C. and made the U.S. National team in 1999. He was traded to The Crew in 2000.

"Tom brings a strong background in finance with his degree from SMU and influence form his father," said John Bean, president, The Financial Solutions Network LLC. "Tom is a disciplined, hard worker who has genuine empathy for people. I am confident he will enjoy great success as a financial planner."

The Financial Solutions Network LLC is independently owned and operated and affiliated with the Securian Financial Network. It is located at 6375 Riverside Drive, Suite 230, Dublin, Ohio 43017; 612-761-8376, 800-860-0061.
