Zinc is a lustrous bluish-white metal. It is found in Group 12 of the periodic table. exploration program in the Roros District of central Norway Central Norway (Norwegian: Midt-Norge (bokmål); Midt-Noreg (nynorsk)) is an administrative division that includes the counties of Nord-Trøndelag, Sør-Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal and is used by, for example, the Regional Health has now been completed, having generated sufficient positive results to justify a further exploration program in 2002. A total of 1,788 meters were drilled from 21 holes in three target areas. In addition, 40 new target areas have also been identified, mapped and surveyed by ground geophysical ge·o·phys·ics n. The 2001 drilling program has confirmed the existence of extensive stratiform stratiform /strat·i·form/ (-form) having a layered structure. stratiform occurring in layers. sulfide sulfide, chemical compound containing sulfur and one other element or sulfur and a radical. Sulfides may be salts or esters of hydrogen sulfide, H2S, or may be formed directly, e.g., by heating a metal with sulfur. mineralization Mineralization The process by which the body uses minerals to build bone structure. Mentioned in: Rickets mineralization, n the bioprecipitation of an inorganic substance. with dimensions of a type that could host commercial deposits, which is most encouraging. While the particular drill targets did not contain economic mineralization, they do demonstrate the potential for economic mineralization within the overall 3000km2 exploration area. This is very common in early stage exploration programs, and the lack of immediate success in identifying economic mineralization is not considered a negative for the overall exploration potential of the area. Drilling results At Tjonnvollmyran six shallow holes were drilled totaling 534m. Massive to semi-massive sulfide mineralization of 3m to 13m thickness was intersected along 800m of N-S N-S North-South N-S Nassi-Shneidermann (diagram) N-S Special Assignment, NACO staff strike length and with a downdip extension of 400m to the west. The lowermost part of the sulphide sulphide: see sulfide. zone shows elevated copper and zinc content in every section, over a 0,5 to 3m interval. The deepest section has a base metal content of 2,8% zinc-equivalent over 1,4m. The overall mineralization is sub economic, but given the zoned nature of the massive sulfide deposits, these results are regarded as promising. At Klinkenberg old mine target, nine holes were drilled, totaling 611m. High-grade zinc mineralization outcrops over 200 m strike-length near the historic workings, and the mineralization can be traced for another 270 m through drill intersections and underground workings. Drill hole No 3 demonstrated 0.8 m with 14.6% Zn; 0.6% Cu; and 30 g/t Ag (from 13.8-14.6m). Drill hole no 5 returned 2,2% Zn and 1.3% Cu from 44.2-44.7m and 6,6% Zn and 1,7% copper from 45.5-46.0m. Finally, 9.2% Zn; 0.9% Cu; 31 g/t Ag and 0.6 g/t Au was found over 0.2m at 47.2m. In drill hole no 7, a copper-rich interval with 5.0% Cu and 0,6% Zn over 4m, was intersected above the zinc mineralization. These drill results indicate that this sulfide mineralization contains very rich segments but apparently is of limited thickness in the outcropping area. At Rosjoen six holes were drilled, totaling 643m. Several zones with disseminated disseminated /dis·sem·i·nat·ed/ (-sem´i-nat?ed) scattered; distributed over a considerable area. dis·sem·i·nat·ed adj. New targets A significant number of new drill targets have been identified as a result of the 2001 work. Several of the new targets have coinciding co·in·cide intr.v. co·in·cid·ed, co·in·cid·ing, co·in·cides 1. To occupy the same relative position or the same area in space. 2. To happen at the same time or during the same period. 3. geophysical and geochemical anomalies which merit follow-up, and will be used in the definition of drill targets for subsequent investigations. One of the new targets is located north of the Killingdal trend named from Killingdal mine cropping out in the south end of the trend. This mine was the last in operation in the Roros district and extracted in the order of 3 million tonnes of zinc-copper ore with a tenor at 5% zinc and 1,7% copper. Strong coinciding geophysical/geochemical anomalies over a strike length of more than 1km, as well as several natural heavy metal-bearing areas up to 900 m2 in size, have been defined.
